Sherpa, with its stretchy knit structure, is very prone to stretching without reinforcement. Sherpa fleece is a pretty thick knit fabric, which means that your standard machine foot may have trouble sewing through multiple layers of fabric. A walking foot will allow your machine to pull the fabric evenly through the feed dogs, which will make it easier to sew this thick, fluffy fabric. Through our work with some of the most innovative companies in the U.S., we’ve refined our iterative product development process to fully align our engineering caliber with your vision. It’s how we’ve co-created new IP and next-gen technologies you find in aircrafts, industrial engines, night vision devices, semiconductor equipment, VR devices, and possibly your own home.
How to Pick a Sherpa Project
In just a few weeks, you’ll have a solid model of how your product would need to look and function, along with a map of investments and risks. For our clients, this breadth of expertise means stronger engineering solutions, simplified purchasing, and full lifecycle support. If you're building or remodeling, know that I've been there and I feel you.

Consider using a ribbed knit fabric for the neckband, waistband, and wrist cuffs, as it will decrease bulk and make a nice design feature. Sherpa fleece has a thick pile that you want to avoid crushing or matting. The iron's heat will smush the fluffy pile and may even melt the fabric if it’s a synthetic or synthetic blend.

Eliza’s creativity and design ideas infused energy and enthusiasm into our strategic plan document. Eliza can take half-formed thoughts and transform them into readable and eye catching designs and layouts. She is extremely responsive, flexible and very easy to work with.
Elevating Engineering
Sherpa fleece is a heavyweight and fluffy knit fabric, napped with a sheep-like fluffy pile on one side and smooth knit fabric on the other side. Typically made out of cotton, polyester, or acrylic fibers—or a combination of the three—sherpa can sometimes be made of wool or even bamboo. The curriculum is identical to Sherpa Design's renowned weeklong training and helps both new and experienced NX users leverage the latest NX tools. It offers a powerful suite of tools that enhance productivity and streamline the design process. With the release of this new training class, Sherpa Design aims to equip students and professionals with the necessary skills to excel in their design and manufacturing endeavors. Cut pattern pieces with the nap in the same direction.
See how we easily bolt on to your R&D teams and make your product the best it can be at every stage. Sherpa Design is a team of engineers, designers, and machinists who push the envelope of new technologies and equip others to do the same. We thrive in partnerships with ambitious, R&D-driven companies ready to move from idea to action. Sherpa is a cozy and wonderful fabric that would make a great addition to your handmade wardrobe. The two most important things to keep in mind when selecting a pattern is that sherpa is a knit fabric and that it is also very bulky.
Sherpa fleece has become a cold-weather classic for good reasons. From blankets to shoe linings, jackets to even sweatpants, this fabric will leave you warm, cozy, and ready to embrace the cold winter days. Dare I say; you might even look forward to those low temps that allow you to wear this delightfully soft and snuggly fabric. If you're making a pullover, vest, or any other fleece item with curved seams, be sure to staystitch your pattern pieces as soon as you cut them.
If it is necessary to use fusible interfacing for your pattern, do not iron directly. Use a pressing cloth and then iron and steam in place with moderate settings on your iron. So, how does sherpa get that distinct curly texture without animal fibers? Twisted yarns are knitted into the fleece fabric, and a wire brush roughens it up and creates the nap. The fibers in sherpa fleece are crimped, which most closely resembles a sheep's wool, and best replicates the benefits that wool can offer, most notably lightweight heat insulation. After an extensive search, Sherpa Design found the perfect building and completed the purchase agreement in October.
Unfortunately, for rotary cutter fans, a rotary cutter may not be accurate due to the unstable nature of the fuzzy fabric pile. We partner with forward-thinking companies to explore new product possibilities, then guide them from concept sketch to first article and beyond. Whether we take on the full project or a specific portion, you can rely on us for the creative vision, technical depth, and agile M.O. From early-stage concepts to initial production runs and sustaining support, you can partner with us on the exact challenge you’re facing and benefit from the experience of our entire team.
Being immersed in nature is known to improve mental wellbeing. At SerpaDesign, I believe that nature design (house plants, terrariums, aquariums, etc.) produces a better quality of life. I often take that to the extreme, but that’s the point. My goal is to excite you about this artform through education and entertainment. This platform is designed to show you just how fun, easy, and rewarding it can be.

With the company's growth stretching capacity at the current location in the St. Johns area's old Columbia Sportswear building, Sherpa has been actively searching for a new home.
You may need to size up for a better fit since sherpa typically has low stretch—and try using ribbed knit for the waistband and cuffs. Sometimes sherpa is carried seasonally, so always check with your favorite local shop first! Here are some great options for getting your hands on some of this flufftastic fabric. Polyester and acrylic blend sherpa from Your Fleece. Innovative engineering needs a multidisciplinary approach.
